Spark gaps
So what is a spark gap and what does it do.....?
A
- It`s a switch plane and simple, but a switch that can handle 1000`s of volts and 1000`s of amps of current and switch on and off 1000`s of times per second, in it`s most simple form its just a gap between two conductors or more complex rotating disk gaps that rotate up to 10,000 RPM, synchronus or non synchronus.
B
- What it does is that it allows the primary capasitor bank to be charged to high voltage then when the "Gap" break down voltage is reached the gap will fire and the main tank capasitor will discharge through the primary coil.
